FAQ
How often do I need to replace filters?
Most Aquila systems require cartridge replacement at least every 12 months, depending on water quality and household usage. Homes with higher sediment levels or heavier water use may require more frequent replacement of sediment cartridges. Regular filter replacement helps maintain filtration performance, water flow and reliable system operation under mains pressure.
Will filtration reduce water pressure?
Aquila whole-home systems are designed for high-flow applications and feature large 1” inlet and outlet connections. When correctly installed and maintained, the system is intended to operate within normal mains water pressure ranges. A noticeable drop in pressure may indicate filters are becoming loaded with sediment and are due for replacement. Aquila systems also include three pressure gauges to help monitor pressure changes across the system.
Do I need a plumber for whole-home systems?
Yes. Whole home systems connect directly to your mains water line and must be installed by a licensed plumber to ensure compliance with Australian standards and to protect your product warranty. The process is straightforward and typically completed within a few hours.
What contaminants does Aquila’s filtration remove?
Aquila whole-home filtration systems are designed to reduce common mains water issues, including:
- Sediment such as dirt, rust, sand and silt
- Chlorine
- Organic compounds that contribute to taste and odour
Filtration performance depends on cartridge selection. Aquila systems are designed for mains water use and are not intended to treat microbiologically unsafe water without additional disinfection.
Will a whole home filter remove limescale from hard water?
Aquila systems help protect your home from Perth’s naturally hard water by using a specialised Scale Inhibitor cartridge. Instead of softening water, the cartridge works by conditioning minerals so they’re far less likely to stick to surfaces.
This delivers real, noticeable benefits:
- Less limescale build-up on taps, tiles and shower screens
- Improved performance and lifespan of appliances like kettles, dishwashers and hot water systems
- Reduced spotting on glassware and bathroom fixtures
- Lower maintenance effort and a cleaner-looking home
- You get the protection of advanced scale control — without the ongoing maintenance or salt requirements of traditional softeners.
How long does installation take?
A standard whole home installation usually takes 2–4 hours, depending on the property layout and plumbing access. Our licensed installers will handle everything with minimal disruption, and your system will be ready to use the same day.
Do Aquila filters remove fluoride?
No. Aquila whole-home filtration systems are not designed to remove fluoride, which is intentionally added to Perth’s scheme water. Aquila systems focus on reducing sediment, chlorine, and taste and odour compounds to improve overall water quality for household use.
What maintenance is required?
Maintenance is minimal — filters are simply replaced on schedule (every 6–12 months). The housings and system require very little upkeep. Aquila offers guidance and reminders to make this easy.

Will the system work if I’m on tank water or bore water?
Aquila systems are designed primarily for mains (scheme) water. Tank or bore water may require additional treatment, such as disinfection or pre-filtration, depending on water quality. Tank and bore water installations should be assessed before installation to ensure the system is suitable and safe for use.
Will a whole home filter change the feel of my shower water?
Some customers notice an improvement in how their water feels after installing the Aquila AQ600, which may be related to reduced chlorine levels and improved overall water quality. The AQ600 is not a traditional water softener and does not remove hardness minerals from the water. Instead, it uses three stages of filtration and scale-inhibition media to help reduce sediment, chlorine, taste and odour, while helping minimise mineral build-up in plumbing and appliances. Individual experiences may vary depending on local water conditions.
How do I know when my filters need replacing?
Filter replacement intervals will vary depending on local water quality and usage, but many systems are serviced approximately every 6-12 months. Common signs that replacement may be due include reduced water pressure, changes in taste, or the return of chlorine smell. The Aquila AQ600 includes three pressure gauges to help monitor pressure changes across the filtration stages, giving you a practical way to assess system performance and helping indicate when filter cartridges may need changing. Aquila can also send replacement reminders for added convenience.
Do I need to turn off my water supply to change the filters?
Yes, the water supply must be briefly turned off during filter changes. The process is simple, takes just a few minutes, and we provide instructions (or you can book a technician if preferred).
Is the system noisy or visible once installed?
No, the filtration unit is usually installed outside, near your mains water connection. It operates silently and requires little space. Once in place, you’ll barely notice it’s there, aside from the benefits in your home.
Can a whole home system reduce soap scum and cleaning time?
Yes. By treating Perth’s hard water, Aquila systems reduce mineral deposits that cause soap scum on showers, tiles, and sinks. Many customers find their bathrooms and kitchens stay cleaner with less effort.
